State Agency for Information Technologies and Communication (Bulgaria)

The State Agency for Information Technologies and Communications (SAITC) was established in September, 2005 as a governmental body under the Council of Ministers.

SAITC pursues the state policy in the field of the Information Technologies and Communications aiming at implementation of electronic services, information technologies and telecommunications that will ensure enhances social and economic development of the country. It monitors and co-ordinates the mutual interests, needs and activities of the state bodies aimed at realisation of the goals and tasks included in the Information Society Strategy and in the National Programme IS Development Programme.

SAITC is led by a Chairman. The Specialized Administration supports and ensures the performance of rights and obligations of the Chairman. It is organised in 8 directorates. The main tasks of SAITS in the field of the Information Society policy and development are as follow:

To define the national IS priorities;

  • To draft the policy and legislation in the ICT field;
  • To prepare strategies and plans for the development of the Information Society and information technologies;
  • To develop the ICT infrastructure for wide public access to electronic services;
  • To elaborate the basic principles for development of Information Society services;
  • To support the activities of the Information Society Coordination Council with the Council of Ministers;
  • To step up collaboration in ICT research and innovation;
  • To coordinate the national participation in the EU initiatives, programmes and projects in the field of the Information Society.
